PFA(perfluoroalkoxy alkane) is a derivative of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). It inherits all the excellent characteristics of PTFE and has made key improvements on this basis:
Inheriting the advantages of PTFE: strong chemical stability, wide temperature resistance range, and extremely low surface energy (non stick).
Key improvement: PFA is melt processable. This means that it can be made into transparent containers with complex shapes and uniform wall thickness through injection molding, blow molding, and other processes, while PTFE can only be formed through sintering and cannot be made into fully transparent thin-walled bottles.
Therefore, highly transparent PFA reagent bottles and sample bottles can be said to be “Teflon bottles that can be made into bottle shapes”, perfectly solving the need for both ultimate performance and transparency and visibility.
Main Application Fields
Due to its excellent performance, high transparency PFA bottles are mainly used in scenarios that require extremely high cleanliness and chemical stability:
Trace/Ultra trace Element Analysis:
ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer): stores standard solutions, samples, high-purity acids, etc.
ICP-OES (Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometer): Same as above.
Isotope analysis: requires extremely high background cleanliness.
High end semiconductor industry:
Store ultra pure chemical reagents (such as UPW ultra pure water), photoresist, high-purity etching solution, etc.
Life sciences and pharmaceutical research and development:
Store precious biological samples, standards, buffers, and reagents that have strict requirements for containers.
Environmental monitoring:
Collect and store environmental samples (water, soil extracts, etc.), especially suitable for scenarios that require detection of trace pollutants such as heavy metals.
New Materials and Synthetic Chemistry:
Store reaction reagents sensitive to metal catalysts or monomers with extremely high purity requirements.
Features & Advantage
Ultra High Chemical Inertness
Almost resistant to all chemicals: able to resist corrosion from strong acids (including aqua regia, hydrofluoric acid), strong bases, strong oxidants, organic solvents, and mixed solutions. This is its most core advantage, which cannot be compared to glass, PP, PE and other plastics.
No dissolution and adsorption: The bottle itself will not dissolve impurities such as metal ions into the sample, nor will it adsorb trace components in the sample, ensuring the integrity and analytical accuracy of the sample.
Extremely High Transparency
The appearance is similar to glass, and the transparency is much higher than that of ordinary FEP (another type of transparent fluoroplastic) bottles, making it convenient to directly observe the color, state, volume, and whether there is sediment in the sample inside the bottle without opening the lid.
Extremely low background value of metal ions
High purity PFA raw materials undergo strict purification during the production process, and their inherent metal ion content (such as Na, K, Li, Ca, Mg, Fe, Al, Zn, etc.) is extremely low, usually reaching ppt (parts per trillion) to ppb (parts per billion) levels. This is crucial for trace and ultra trace analysis (such as ICP-MS, ICP-OES), as it can effectively prevent contamination of the sample by the container itself.
Wide Temperature Resistance Range
It can usually be used for a long time within the temperature range of -200 ℃ to+260 ℃. It can be used for long-term storage in liquid nitrogen and ultra-low temperature refrigerators, as well as for high-temperature water bath digestion or drying in ovens, without any change in performance.
Excellent Sealing Performance
Usually paired with bottle caps and inner caps/gaskets made of high-purity PFA, a perfect sealing system is formed to prevent volatile components from escaping or samples from being contaminated by the outside world.
Flexibility & Durability
Compared to glass, PFA has excellent toughness, is not easily broken, has strong impact resistance, and is safer to use.
